BARNES buildings is contracted for the new Friendship Home project in Norwell, MA January 12, 2010

NORWELL, MA – BARNES buildings has been contracted to fabricate and erect the structural steel, miscellaneous iron, stairs, and rails on this civically high impact new project with Acella Construction Corporation.  The Friendship Home is located in Norwell, MA and will provide respite care and will include office space and an activity center for people with developmental disabilities.

Members of Friendship Home can stay in the residence hall for periods of up to two weeks, giving them a safe and stimulating environment, and providing needed respite for their caregivers.  Friendship Home was begun 10 years ago by Norwell residents Wilma Goodhue and Joan Mullare, both who have adult children with developmental disabilities. The activity center will also serve as a central location for the group’s Friendship Clubs that have about 65 members who meet in Quincy, Duxbury, and Norwell for social activities and community service projects.

Construction of the 14,000 s.f. project is scheduled to begin immediately, and will be completed in the spring of 2010. The project was designed by David Dunlap of Dunlap & Associates, located in Norwell, MA.
