Campanelli Stadium – Home of the Brockton Rox Minor League Baseball Team May 31, 2002

BARNES buildings recently completed the stadium phase of Campanelli Stadium and Conference Center, Brockton, MA – home of the Brockton Rox Minor League Baseball Team. The stadium itself is over 90,000 SF of floor area plus grandstand seating for 4,750 which we also set the steel for, and the 16,000 SF Conference Center now under construction.

The general contractor Payton Construction of Boston approached us to price and provide value engineering for the conventionally designed building which was over budget. This was done in a team approach with Payton, the architect (Gould Evans Associates of Tampa), Metallic Buildings and BARNES buildings.

With the assistance of our supplier Metallic Building Company, we proposed changing the framing system to a hybrid design combining pre-engineered and structural framing for the 3-story structure. We also introduced horizontal metal siding at the perimeter to replace a fair portion of walls previously designed for masonry. We substituted Metallic and MBCI products for previously specified products. These things and other changes to the original scheme resulted in substantial savings to the owner and actually made the project work within the allowed budget.

It also provided Payton Construction with BARNES buildings as their single-source for design, supply and erection for the structure, walls and roof (building enclosed and insulated). The only other obstacle after the budget was meeting an extremely challenging schedule as the park had to be complete for Opening Day , May 31, 2002.

We ordered steel the end of November, 2001 from Metallic and began taking deliveries the last week of January. We did not start setting steel until February 9th due to permitting. The park was complete and opened May 31st to a sold out crowd, only to be disappointed at a game postponement due to a full blown rainstorm. Even though it rained, everyone had fun sampling food and beer from the concession
stands and proudly touring the stadium Concourse, Luxury Boxes and Press Boxes, with friends and families as the entire BARNES buildings crew  attended.

We also very enjoyed the fact that through all the driving rain that night, there was not one leak!
